Seven years of asking who protects Africa’s data
Since 2020, the Africa Data Security Conclave has brought together people from technology, data, regulation, security, law, academia and policy to strengthen Africa’s digital ecosystem while making room for innovation.
As the technology moved, so did the conversation: from data protection and cybersecurity, to artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure, and now to the digitisation of tax administration.
ADSC is hosted by Taxaide Technologies Limited (Taxtech), a TGroup company.
Africa’s tax infrastructure and the data protection imperative
Countries across Africa are at very different levels of digital and regulatory maturity. The 7th ADSC looks at how each can modernise tax infrastructure while dealing with data protection, cybersecurity, data sovereignty and responsible technology governance. Over two days, we set out to:
- Assess how mature data protection compliance is in African tax administration and revenue collection.
- Examine how APIs and interoperable systems are changing tax administration.
- Weigh the opportunities, risks and governance of AI and advanced analytics in tax.
- Unpack data sovereignty when tax data is stored, processed or moved across borders.
- Consider what international tax information exchange means for data protection.
- Build dialogue between tax authorities, regulators, technology providers and lawyers.
- Agree practical measures and policy recommendations for secure, compliant tax systems.
- Shape a shared African view on governing data and technology in the tax ecosystem.
